Tower Bridge Road, London

Newham's Yard comprises a choice of deluxe studio, one, two and three bedroom apartments. My redesign of the reception area in Newham's Yard was proposed as part of a six-week internship within the Design & Construction department of Galliard Homes in London. I took on the responsability of selecting a new look within Galliard's pallette of standard finishes.
The building is located on Tower Bridge Road, only a twenty minute journey from Central London. The project aim was to create a welcoming space that impresses and assures the residents of the building of upscale treatment. All the while, considering refelcting Galliard's unqiue character.
The long and narrow reception layout lacked a large amount of natural lighting so its lighting and atmosphere was to be acknowledged. As the aim of the project was to create a luxurious and welcoming environment, a great deal of thought was put into the detailing of the material finish and craftsmenship that surrounded the intervention of warm artificial lighting.
Walnut timber slats and panels, were chosen as the feature material in the space. The walnut slats wrap the ceiling and the right hand and far walls. LED lighting strips were mounted and recessed between the slats and splayed panels so as to give general illumination while subtley guiding the residents towards the high-spec passenger lift, 24 post boxes or the stairwell around the corner. In addition to lighting, mirrored panels were installed at the entrance of the reception so as to further illuminate the entrance niche.
